For of all sad words of tongue or pen. The saddest are these, "It might have been!"
From his earliest memories Justin was intrigued by the creativity of art. Justin Borders moved to the small town of Fall River Mills, California in 1976 at the age of 12 where he attended Fall River Junior Senior High school. The first chance he had for any instruction was as an elective in seventh grade. Barbara St John was his instructor and inspired creativity. Over the next six years Justin took Barbara’s classes at every opportunity. The classes exposed Justin to graphite, charcoal, pastel, water color, calligraphy, sculpture and more. Along with exposure to many mediums Barbara’s classes introduced technical skills. For over two decades following graduation from school Justin's artistic creativity was sidelined and his technical skills rusted. After prompting from Justin’s wife Heidi, he enrolled in a water color class at Shasta Community College. The fire was rekindled and he has no intention of sidelining his creativity again. At the age of 42, I am just beginning something I should have been doing all along. I am a work in progress. To become an accomplished artist it takes years of practice. I have barely scratched the surface. My sage advice to anyone who cares to learn from others life experiences is to not delay the things you want to do in life. I have recently discovered a masterful artist named Suchitra Bhosle. She has turned me onto the Alla Prima process of painting. Suchitra apprenticed under Jeremy Lipking and has studied under Richard Schmid (A recipient of the John Singer Seargent Award). I have the great honor of learning from one of the best. I may have a long path ahead of me, but I am determined to get there.
My favorite subject is the female form. I enjoy a beautiful landscape and seascape, but in my opinion the female form is by far the most beautiful of Gods creations. That is the great thing about art, the enjoyment of it is a purely unique experience. If it pleases you that is all that matters.
